Overview and project status-
The Landscape Plan for Soule Park, shown to the left, calls for subtle development of the landscape that is there now, and features native trees and shrubs which will attract wildlife.
In the lawn area at the entrance to the park, a few shade trees will be added, and perennial beds will be grouped nearby. Several benches will be placed under the trees, creating seating at the edges of the lawn.
Shrubs will be added along the winding path that connects the lawn area to the wooded area at the rear of the park. Rhododendrons, viburnums and winterberrys will add winter interest.
Behind the school building, there will be a small area for playing more active sports. It will be framed by existing shrubs, and more will be added to stabilize the banking next to the woods.
In the woods, the trees and vegetation which are there now will be allowed to grow with a minimum of interference. A few non-native invasive plants will be removed. Existing paths will be maintained and kept clear for walking and nature observation.
In the future, if enough money can be raised, a low stone wall will be built along part of the street edge of the park, to cut down on the noise of passing cars and offer visual and physical protection from the busy street. More shrubs will be added.
